Seasoned and novice
antique collectors as well as frequent fairgoers attending the
annual Antique and Collectible Fair in Old Town Clovis expect to see
many old and unique items displayed on both sides of the streets.
But at 2009 fair on Sunday, October 11th, they saw something they did not expect to see
at the event: several magnificent owls, hawks, and other wild birds.
A beautiful Barred Owl,
securely perched on the arm of a lady in front of the
Fresno Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center booth caught the
eye of many fairgoers. Some other owls and hawks also perched
on several iron rods that were set on the street. Practically
everyone there came very close to these wild birds to admire their
beauty. Someone in the crowd wondered aloud how the owls and
hawks were captured. Someone else inquired about the name and origin
of these wild birds. Volunteers from the Center cheerfully answered
every question.
Story continued
below.
The purpose of Fresno
Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center having a booth at the
annual Antique and Collectible Fair in Old Town Clovis was to bring
awareness to people of all ages about the many injured or abandoned wild birds and
other animals of many species that the wildlife volunteers have taken care of. The
volunteer rehabbers also shared some fascinating backgrounds of the rescued owls and
hawks. They also explained to the spectators what to do if
they ever come across an injured bird or other animal.
It seemed that the wild
birds at this Antique Fair were accustomed to being admired at a close-up
range by people. Some of them were just a perfect model for
publicity photo ops at this event.
The folks at the Fresno
Wildlife Rescue and Rehabilitation Center did a fantastic
job to educate the public at the Antique and Collectible Fair about
their mission to rescue and treat injured or abused wild animals and
to
release the rehabilitated animals back to their natural habitat.
What a pleasant surprise
and exciting experience it was to see Barred Owls, a Saw-whet Owl, Harris'
Hawks, a Red-tailed Hawk and several other fascinating birds up close in the middle
of the morning in the heart of
a thriving city!
