A lot of exciting activities have happened
at the peak of summer in Clovis and Central California.
One of the most popular festivals in August
was the Seventh Annual California Fig Fest
on Saturday, August 7th.
Story continued
below.
It was a perfect time for a Fig Fest as
California fresh figs are at their peak
season in August. The beautiful location to
taste delicious California fresh and dry
figs, both straight and in a variety of
scrumptious dishes, was on the cool and
shady lawn of California State University,
Fresno.
This year, California Fig Growers
Association and Slow Food Madera jointly
created a remarkable and delicious Fig Fest.
On this Saturday, fig growers, food
purveyors, and highly talented and
well-known chefs from more than a dozen top
restaurants in the Central Valley put out
great selections of incredibly creative
dishes and artisan products for fairgoers
and fig lovers to taste. There was no doubt
that ample samples of various unique and
delectable fresh and dry fig-based dishes,
such as
from Cracked Pepper Bistro, Ruth's Chris
Steakhouse, The Vineyard Restaurant & Bar,
Love & Garlic, The Rue and Gwen Gibson Farm
Market, The Vintage Press, Trio Restaurant,
Whole Foods Market, and many other
restaurants and caterers, were the main
ingredients for a successful seventh Annual
California Fig Fest.
Here are photo essays that illustrated a
wide range of fun activities at Fig Fest
2010:

Owners of
Trelio Restaurant in Clovis, Chef Mike
Shackelford and his father James
Shackelford, along with one of
their employees, Christina
Ferguson, invite fairgoers to
taste Caramel Chocolate Stuffed
Figs with Maldon Sea Salt. These
unique fig confections were
specially created by Chef
Shackelford for Fig Fest. Chef
Shackelford used dried Calimyrna
figs for this delicious recipe.

answer fairgoers' many questions
about varieties of figs from The
Specialty Crop Co., such as
Sierra, Kadota, Brown Turkey,
and Black Mission.
There were
also questions about different
types of fig plants at their
booth, such as Tiger, Brown
Turkey, Sierra, and Black

With an emphasis on California figs, both
fresh and dry, as the main ingredients, a good selection of fresh and
delicious-tasting dishes from many
innovative and talented chefs and food
