A long-awaited franchising course to help
entrepreneurs learn networking strategies that
will enhance business success will be offered
this fall at California State University, Fresno
for students and community members.
The
Division of Continuing and Global Education, in
conjunction with the Lyles Center for Innovation
and Entrepreneurship at Fresno State, will
provide the hands-on three-unit course. It’s for
university students and others considering
becoming a franchisee, franchising an existing
business or who want to work in the franchise
industry.
The class will meet 6-9 p.m. Wednesdays
beginning Aug. 31.
Students will examine franchising from
franchisor and franchisee perspectives. Topics
include evaluating franchising opportunities,
developing best franchising strategies and
practices, successfully planning and launching
franchise networks and franchised outlets, and
dealing with changes over time.
Dr. Timothy Stearns, executive director of
the Lyles Center, said the course will “maximize
the odds for success in today’s franchising
world.” He noted the goal of the class is to
have each student create a business network and
to be better prepared to start a business
enterprise.
Alan Rudominer, a retail executive with more
than 25 years’ experience, is the instructor.
The class will meet in the Lyles Center on the
second floor of the Student Recreation Center on
Woodrow Avenue near Shaw Avenue. The fee for the
course is $630.
Thursday, July 21st -- Learn Specifics of SBA
Guaranteed Loan Programs. Free Seminar In
this free workshop, you will learn about specifics
of SBA guaranteed loan programs from small loans for
the home-based businesses to multi-million dollar
real estate and manufacturing transactions. If you
want to apply for an SBA guaranteed loan or have
ever considered applying for one, this workshop is a
must and will be presented by an experienced SBA
Loan Officer and a local SBA lender. The workshop
will provide you with the tools and information that
you will need for a successful loan application.

As part
of its ongoing educational outreach, the Lyles
Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and
Alibaba.com will host
"Entrepreneurship in the Global Marketplace," a
special seminar featuring noted educators,
entrepreneurs and executives. The seminar is one of
a series being conducted at several California
universities under the auspices of the
Schwarzenegger Emerging Entrepreneur Initiative.
The seminar will consist of a
combination of presentations, panels and question
and answer sessions to cover topics such as the
importance of global trade, expanding your business
into international markets, PR for entrepreneurs,
and a story of success from a recent college
graduate turned successful entrepreneur. After the
event, all attendees will have an opportunity to
receive an extensive toolkit of information and
offers for launching businesses using global
sourcing and trade.
About the Hosts:
The Lyles Center for Innovation and
Entrepreneurship is a nationally-ranked
entrepreneurship center that offers outlets and
opportunities for students to act on ideas that
build a prosperous future. Formed through a
partnership between Fresno State and William Lyles,
the Lyles Center has been building programs and
fostering innovation throughout the state since
2003. A bridge for the campus and community, the
Lyles Center links resources from both to achieve
success in the marketplace.

3,000 California university students with guidance,
skills and entrepreneurial know-how to start their
