Academic gains continue across Clovis Unified  ̶  17 district schools now scoring over 900 on state’s Academic Index
By Kelly Avants, CUSD Today*
Posted on October 10, 2010

Student progress in Clovis Unified continued in the 2009-10 school year, resulting in an 11-point gain in the district’s Academic Performance Index (API) to 866.

Academic performance indicators released by the California Department of Education revealed an overall increase in student performance in Clovis Unified. This year, eight CUSD schools jumped 20 or more points on the API, with 17 schools now scoring over 900 on the state’s 1,000-point scale.

Meeting the educational needs of every child in the classroom is at the heart of the No Child Left Behind Act; and sharply rising Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) goals are revealing where U.S. schools are, and are not, meeting those needs. This year, the vast majority of Clovis Unified schools again met all district-wide AYP goals, even as those expectations continue a sharp increase toward a goal of 100 percent of students achieving at or above grade level by 2014.

“I am extremely happy with the results of our students on this year’s academic assessments,” said Superintendent Dave Cash, Ed.D. “Our goal is to meet the academic needs of 100 percent of the children in CUSD and the outstanding growth shown in our 2010 API scores shows that we are making great progress toward that goal.”

Other areas of interest in the recent release of student performance data include:

33 Clovis Unified schools increased their 2010 API over last year’s results, with 17 elementary schools’ scores exceeding 900 on the 1,000-point scale.

All intermediate schools in Clovis Unified have API scores that exceed 800.

9 of 10 Title I schools in Clovis Unified have surpassed 800, with scores ranging from 817– 881.

Clovis Unified high schools again posted the highest API scores in the San Joaquin Valley of any comprehensive high schools.
