The
Art of Acting for Beginners
Do you always love
the bright lights, and being the center of attention? Do
you have to put on a happy face at work or with friends
even when you don’t feel like it? Look no further!
Acting for Beginners will teach you the fundamentals of
acting. Sessions will include learning blocking, theatre
terminology, vocal exercises, improvisation and cold
reading of dramatic pieces. Participants will gain
self-confidence and vocal skills as they interact with
their team mates. Leslie Lee is a graduate of Fresno
Pacific University with a degree in English. She has
over eleven years of acting experience, and has taught
theater for 8 years before moving on to teach in an
after school enrichment program.

Cartoon Sculpture Ages 9+
Imagine creating a
sculpture based on your favorite cartoon character. We
will practice a number of techniques used to create high
quality sculptures used in the entertainment industry.
We will research images for reference. Your work is not
limited to the animated; you can also sculpt video game
and comic book characters. The first class meets to
discuss needed supplies, and to review the curriculum.

Creative Cartooning –
Beginning Ages 15+
Ever
wanted to take your character doodles and sketches and
turn them into polished comic strips, comic books,
graphic novels, or even greeting cards? If your answer
is “Yes,” then this is the class for you. We will cover
the following: Common tools of the trade, character
design and layout processes, brainstorming gags and
story lines, penciling, inking and coloring tips and
techniques, as well as ways to get your creations into

Drawing – Beginning
Ages 15+
This
course will introduce the beginning drawer to the
Elements of Art (line, shape, form, space, value,
texture, and color) along with the Principles of Design
(balance, movement, emphasis, variety, rhythm,
proportion, and unity). There will be a variety of
drawing exercises along with four drawing projects
(Still-Life, Initials Value, Landscape, and Pop-Art).

Portrait Drawing
Everyone can
draw! You will learn drawing skills to complete
a true-to-life portrait by using the proper
materials, as well as choosing the right photo.
An emphasis will be placed on creating your own
style. You will then be on your way to drawing
portraits of those around you with enjoyment and
ease. Ms. Valdez graduated with a Studio Art
Degree. She has been drawing for the past 12
years and has now transitioned into oil
painting. Her work will be displayed in upcoming
shows. Materials list will be provided on the
first night.

Pottery – Beginning
You
will be introduced to the methods of pottery making,
using the basic processes and techniques of the potter's
craft. You will begin the semester by learning to
hand-build vessels and other forms using the pinching,
coiling, and slab-rolling techniques. Later in the
semester, you will be introduced to the use of the
potter's wheel for making basic cylinder forms, which
can then be altered into more interesting shapes.
Glazing will be introduced at the end of the semester to
finish the semester's class projects. A materials fee of
$15 is payable to the instructor on the first night of
class.

Pottery –
Intermediate Level
In
this class you will explore further the craft of the
potter, developing the basic pinching, coiling, and
slab-rolling techniques into better crafted forms, as
well as learning more advanced wheel-throwing techniques
to produce interesting shapes beyond the basic cylinder
and bowl. Select class projects will be glazed towards
the end of the semester. Better craftsmanship is
emphasized in this class. Previous skills in clay work
and especially in wheel-throwing is a must. A materials
fee of $15 is payable to the instructor on the first
night of class.

Sculpting the Human Form – Figure Modeling Ages
15+
Imagine being
able to sculpt a human form completely
customized to your own specifications. Class is
designed for the beginning artist. Your teacher
will demonstrate techniques used by master
figure modelers, toy makers, and film industry
artist. We will focus on ways to approach
certain areas of the human form, and sculpt a
small scale version of your favorite character.
Prior experience is not necessary, but if you
apply these lessons in your daily practice,
you’ll be sculpting like a professional in no
time. The first class meets for 1 hour to
discuss needed supplies, and to review the
curriculum.

Watercolor Painting –
All Levels
These classes will
teach beginning students the skills needed to paint
exciting watercolors. Experienced students will learn
from coaching and observing demonstrations. Information
on matting, framing, and how to exhibit and sell
paintings is also covered. . Ms. Owens is an award
winning artist, having recently won several awards at
the Old West & Rodeo Art Show, including the ‘Mary
Krause’ Award. Bring any supplies you have to the first
class. A supply list will be provided the first night of
class.
